Brief Biography of Each Speaker

Eric J. Fuchs
Dr. Eric J. Fuchs earned his Doctor of Arts from Middle Tennessee State University in 2003, his Master’s degree in 1994, from San Jose State University and Bachelor’s degree in 1992 from Ohio University.

Dr. Fuchs currently resides in Richmond, Kentucky where he serves as the Coordinator of Clinical Education and Assistant Professor of the Athletic Training at Eastern Kentucky University.  Prior to EKU, Dr. Fuchs spent three and half years as the Clinical Coordinator and Assistant Athletic Trainer at Tusculum College in Tennessee.

Dr. Fuchs has presented on topics related to the emergency management of the critically injured athlete, at various athletic training and emergency medical conferences  Including presentations for SEATA Student Symposium, TATS Symposium, Vanderbilt Life-Flight’s EMS Night Out,  Johnson City & Washington County EMS Workshop,  South Central Tennessee EMS Directors Conference,  State Emergency Medical Services Convention in Tennessee to name a few.

Dr. Fuchs has worked as an assistant football athletic trainer for Tusculum College, served as a Doctoral Graduate Assistant Football Athletic Trainer at Middle Tennessee State University, and worked as a high school athletic trainer covering football and all sports for five years.

During his tenure Dr. Fuchs has dedicated time to sharing his knowledge and expertise through numerous national, regional and state public speaking engagements. Some of which have included presentations at:

  • Annual Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association Clinical Symposium and Members Meeting
  • Tennessee Athletic Trainers’ Society State Meeting
  • Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association Student Symposium
  • And this, his third consecutive year presenting at the NATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium
  • Kentucky Athletic Trainers’ Society State Meeting

Dr. Fuchs’s presentation’s success at the NATA conferences earned him admission to the NATA’s National Speaker Bureau in 2004. Dr. Fuchs also commits his time to such professional endeavors as serving as a BOC Qualified Examiner, a CAATE site visitor, and a manuscript reviewer for Athletic Therapy Today, Human Kinetics, and F.A. Davis Company.

Dr. Fuchs holds memberships with the, National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association, Kentucky Athletic Trainers’ Society, the National Association of Orthopedic Technologists and the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT).  He has additionally served as a fire fighter and EMT with a variety of volunteer fire and rescue departments in his 10 plus years as an EMT.

Brad Montgomery
In 16 years in the University of West Alabama Athletic Training and Sports Medicine program, Brad Montgomery has advanced from graduate assistant to his current position as Head Athletic Trainer, with stops at assistant and associate athletic trainer along the way.

He is a 1989 graduate of the University of North Alabama with a BS in Physical Education and Biology, later earning an MAT in Physical Education from UWA in 1992.

The Florence, AL native and Wilson High School alumnus is a certified member of the NATA, and a certified BOC examiner.  Montgomery also serves as an instructor in the Physical Education and Athletic Training Department.

In addition to his numerous academic and professional achievements, Montgomery was previously President of the Alabama Executive Board of Athletic Trainers, member of the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers, member of the Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Executive Committee, and named to the Outstanding Young Men of America four times (1996099).  He also worked annually on the athletic training staff of the Blue-Gray All-Star Classic in Montgomery, AL from 1983 to 1992.

Montgomery is married to former Janet Koenig, Head Softball Coach at UWA.  They have one son, Brock, 11 and one daughter, Jade, 9.
