Brief Biography
Dr. Fleisig
received his engineering degrees from MIT,
Washington University, and the University of
Alabama at Birmingham. He helped found the
American Sports Medicine Institute in 1987.
He is currently holds ASMI’s “Smith & Nephew
Chair of Research.” Dr. Fleisig’s research
has focused on understanding and preventing
injuries in baseball pitchers. He has more
than 85 scientific publications, and works
with everyone in baseball from Major League
Baseball to Little League Baseball.
Brief Description of Presentation
The number of
surgeries for adolescent baseball pitchers
is rising at epidemic rates. Risk factors
related to arm injuries in young pitchers
include amount of pitching, quality of
mechanics, and types of pitches. In this
presentation, these risk factors will be
analyzed and explained.
