LAT
Brief Biography
Over the duration of his career,
Franklin has held a variety of traditional and
non-traditional positions. Early in his career,
Franklin spent six years as the Director of Sports
Medicine at Watauga Orthopaedics located in Johnson
City, TN. In this role he worked with 11 orthopaedic
surgeons. Next, Franklin spent four years as Head
Athletic Trainer at Western Carolina University in
Cullowhee, NC. Today, and for the last five years,
Franklin has settled in as CEO and sole
administrator at a private orthopaedic practice. In
addition to his daily duties at the practice,
Franklin has created a quality fellowship program
for athletic trainers.
Consequently, Franklin has been
charged with helping the NATA and CIC to work on
building more quality employer-based fellowships
which will help prepare other athletic trainers for
work in the CIC setting.
As one of the few athletic
trainers working as a practice administrator,
Franklin works tirelessly to build relationships
with other allied health care professional
associations. Franklin is NATA's liaison to BONES,
speaks at numerous events on behalf of the NATA and
the CIC, and has recently been appointed CIC's lead
in the establishment of the Employer-Based
Fellowship Programs. Franklin has a wealth of
knowledge pertaining to the physician extender
fellowship program model and can answer questions
related to billing & collections for athletic
trainers as first assists in the operating room and
with home exercise. Franklin also has knowledge
regarding the establishment of athletic trainers as
key players in the durable medical equipment
setting.
Brief Description of Presentation
The purpose is to provide the
membership an update on the evolving physician
extender model and the emerging job market
opportunities for multi-credentialed ATC's within
the Hospital and Private Healthcare arenas.
