Brief Description of
Presentation
This workshop will
provide the opportunity for acquisition of skills
related to the fabrication of custom orthotics in
the athletic training room from inexpensive,
low-temperature thermoplastic material. Discussion
topics will include the interdependent function of
the proximal and distal joints of the ankle and
foot, normal versus abnormal subtalar displacement
during the phases of the gait cycle, clinical
evaluation of gait, effects of shoe design on
subtalar pronation, and the mechanisms by which
orthotics may facilitate restoration of normal,
pain-free lower extremity function.
