Brief Biography of
Speaker
Dr. Swann continues at
Nova Southeastern University, in Fort Lauderdale,
Florida, starting in 2003 as the Director of the
CAATE accredited Athletic Training Education and
Director of Exercise Science. Previously at East
Carolina University, in Greenville, North Carolina,
where she served an Assistant Professor in Athletic
Training, Clinical Instructor, and Adjunct Faculty
at the Brody School of Medicine. Originally, from
Burbank, California she received her Bachelor's
Degree in Athletic Training from Texas State
University in San Marcos. She obtained her Master of
Arts in Sport Management from The University of
Texas at Austin and a Doctorate of Philosophy in
Administration and Teaching at The University of
Southern Mississippi.
While professionally, she serves on the NATA
Professional Education Committee and coordinates the
CIE seminar. Her current research passion is focused
on interpersonal communication and the athletic
training student’s interactions with clinical
instructors. Dr. Swann is married to Brian Anderson
and they enjoy traveling and recently completed a
Half-Marathon together.
Brief Description of
Presentation
Establishing
recommendations for managing medications in the
athletic training setting is necessary to ensure
proper protocols arc followed by all involved. The
NATA provides a Consensus Statement, in which we
will discuss the process of storage, packaging,
tracking and disseminating both prescription (as
ordered by a physician) and OTC medications per
manufacturer directions.
