The 4th
Biennial
SEATA
Athletic Training Educators' Conference will be
held Feb. 2-3, 2012 at the Crown Plaza Ravinia Hotel in Atlanta, GA.
Bud Cooper, EdD., ATC
of the University of Georgia and Karen Lew, MEd, ATC of
the University of Miami are the conference co-chairs.
The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training
Education (CAATE) will be providing a Workshop
from 8:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on February 4, 2012
in conjunction with the SEATA
Athletic Training Educators' Conference. Attendees may register for either or both based upon

The SEATA
Athletic Training Educators Conference includes heavy Hors

lunch on Friday afternoon. The CAATE Workshop includes

Research
The SEATA Research and Education Committee is issuing a call
for poster presentation abstracts that will be reviewed for
possible display at the 4th Biennial SEATA Educators’
Conference on Feb. 2-3, 2012 in Atlanta, GA. Individuals
interested in sharing original research, or other scholarly
work that is relevant to athletic training clinical practice
or education, are encouraged to submit by the Nov. 15, 2011
deadline. Abstracts will be rated on the basis of
clarity of purpose, appropriateness of methods, adequacy of
results, relevance of findings to the clinical practice of
athletic training or the education of athletic training
students, and value of the information to conference

Good clinical educators are the foundation of
successful clinical education program.
Developing the educational capacity of clinical
instructors requires effective communication and
a supportive environment. Through
real-life examples, this presentation will

Doug Horton is a certified athletic
trainer with over 8 years of clinical experience
at the professional, Olympic, university and
high school levels. He directs the Life Fitness
Program and serves as the Clinical Education
Coordinator for the ATEP overseeing students as
they participate in a variety of practicum
experiences. His teaching includes the Athletic
Training Education Program practicum courses,
Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Lower
Extremity Evaluation, Pharmacology, and some
courses outside of the ATEP such as Life Fitness
Through Endurance. Doug is a member of the
Eastern University Student Assessment Committee
and has conducted university wide assessment
workshops for faculty.

Chad Clements has been a clinical assistant
professor at Boston University, where he serves
as the coordinator of clinical education and
teaches courses in Foundations of Athletic
Training, Clinical Medicine and Clinical
Athletic Training, since 2007. He has practiced
athletic training since 1998, serving as an
assistant athletic trainer at Seton Hall
University and as a head athletic trainer at
both Stevens Institute of Technology and Lasell
College. He has also served as an approved
clinical instructor for the athletic training
education programs at Seton Hall, Lasell
College, and BU. Chad has presented on clinical
education topics at national and regional
professional conferences. He is currently a
candidate for his PhD in Movement Studies at
Seton Hall University where he will be studying
the validity of using real-time clinical
screening tools to identify poor lower extremity
mechanics.
Brian Vesci, MA, ATC

Brian Vesci currently serves as a senior
athletic trainer for Boston University’s
Athletic Training Services. His primary clinical
responsibilities include coordinating the care
for the Men’s Soccer team as well as overseeing
graduate students coordinating Field Hockey and
Softball and ROTC. Brian also serves as a
faculty member in the College of Health and
Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College, and is
an approved clinical instructor for the
undergraduate athletic training program,
supervising and mentoring undergraduate athletic
training students. He graduated from Duquesne
University in 2004 with a bachelor of science
degree in athletic training and he earned his
master of arts degree in athletic training from
the University of North Carolina in December
2006. Brian has delivered several presentations
as well as published articles relating to model
clinical practice in athletic training and
athletic training education.
