SEATA Young Professionals Welcome Graduating Seniors to Profession

The SEATA Young Professionals Committee is excited to welcome graduating seniors to our shared profession!  Young Professionals throughout the Southeast are available to meet with ATEPs to provide some peer-to-peer insights into you or your student's first year in the profession.

Recently, Young Professionals Marco Zucconi and Lauren Donnelly visited with the University of Central Florida.  Following a presentation to the senior class, the group had some wonderful conversation about surviving the first "certified" year, professional involvement, and life in the "real world".

If your ATEP's graduating class or student organization would like to be included in an upcoming visit, please contact AlexMPinto@live.com for more information.

NATA Public Relations Committee Report & Recap for December

The award is available to be undergraduate or entry-level master's students who are members of NATA and have never attended an NATA Annual Meeting before. NATA hopes to award one student per district (depending on deserving entrants) which will consist of a $500 travel stipend to the NATA Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. This stipend will be applied toward hotel and transportation. NATA will waive the convention registration fee for each of the winners. Click HERE for complete info and the application form which must be submitted by April 30, 2012.

    SEATA Student Committee accepting applications

Membership Suspended? You Can Still Correct It

As of February 15th members that have not paid their NATA dues must be listed as ‘suspended’. If that is you it is not too late! A ‘suspended’ membership is not terminal state; it simply means until you have met you financial membership obligations you lose your membership privileges. If finances are a problem payment options are available that can return you to active status TODAY but allow you to meet your obligation throughout the remained of the year. The NATA, SEATA and your State association need your thoughts, insight and voice; we want and need you!!! If you are happy with the direction of your profession and your membership is suspended then reinstate it and work to keep the momentum going!; if you want to see a change in the direction of your profession reinstate your membership and work to make a difference! You can’t do either if you’re not a member. If you have questions about your membership status you can always call me @ 678-663-2346, your state secretary, or NATA member services 1-800-879-6282, the green discount as well as the two year dues payment discount can be applied for your 2012 membership.

    Get Your NPI Now!!

SEATA strongly encourages all Athletic Trainers to register for their National Provider Identifier number (NPI).  This number is extremely important in allowing our profession to become recognized – both in business NPPES, National Plan & Provider Enumeration Systemand in Healthcare.  This number is important regardless of the setting worked.

Once you get your NPI number, it will be yours forever -- no matter where you work. There’s no downside to having an NPI number.  Applying for an NPI number is quick, easy and free.

The NPI is a numeric 10 digit identifier, consisting of 9 numbers plus a check-digit in the 10th position. It is accommodated in all standard transactions and contains no embedded information about the healthcare provider that it identifies.

When filling out your application use: Provider Code 22 (Respiratory, Rehabilitative & Restorative Service Providers) and Taxonomy Code 2255A2300X (Athletic Trainer)

    To Apply go to:

    Concussion Legislation

There is a concussion bill making its way through the Tennessee House and Senate for this session.  It is a new bill this year that has been agreed to by the TSSAA, TATS, the Tennessee Physical Therapist Association, and the Tennessee Medical Association.  You can review the original bill at the following website: http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/107/Bill/HB3399.pdf.  The language of the bill is to be modified to reflect the agreed upon language amongst all of our groups.

When the time is appropriate, we will start the process of contacting our respective legislators to encourage their vote on this bill to help it become law.  We will be putting together "talking points" so our message is one and we present a united front.  Please take the time to familiarize yourself with this bill and help us in support of this bill.

If you have any questions, please contact Johnnie Anderson at jandersonatc@hotmail.com.
