Committee on Revenue Report

The NATA Committee On Revenue met in St. Louis prior to the June NATA Annual Meeting.  During the February NATA Joint Committee Meeting in DC the NATA leadership rolled out to us ‘Involve and Evolve’.  Under the I&E initiative COR will transition to  the "Council on Revenue."  The NEW COR will NOT be district based but instead will  be made up of athletic trainers who have interest in specialty areas concerning revenue.  The council then has the authority to select athletic trainers to be in "WORK GROUPS" to work on specific projects.  An example of this is the recent work in the College University Billing task force.

The mission of COR currently is to ‘To pursue revenue opportunities for athletic training services.’  That mission will not change.  Our mission is accomplished by 1) COR members serving as a resource for NATA members, 2) by aiding other committees refine their revenue opportunities, and 3) by assisting in the development of new revenue opportunities that involve the business of Athletic Training.  The foundational believes to our purpose is twofold, external to COR--- if an Athletic Trainer receives a paycheck for any endeavor using their athletic training education then they are in the business of Athletic Training; and internal to COR---(to paraphrase a BASF ad)--- We don’t make the revenue opportunities, we make the revenue opportunities better!

COR, thanks to the leadership of  Ken Locker, Chair of COR,  the committee unanimously supported this and other I&E changes and applaud the NATA staff and Directors for this creative outside-the-box approach.  The type of work COR does, does not need to be district based; in fact being district based may actually hamper our efforts.  State laws dictate revenue opportunities and it is the believe of COR members that transitioning  to a non-district based format will allow us to be more responsive and unencumbered.   Using the ‘rising tide lifts all boats’ philosophy, it is our belief that the I&E changes will allow us to focus efforts and resources on revenue models and projects, that will further lift our profession, as opposed to trying to lift each district up one by one.  We further believe that other Committees that undergo similar transitions should also be able to increase their responsiveness and sharpen their focus.  We believe that these steps will not only help our committee be of greater value to the NATA membership, but is important to keep our association member driven.

SEATA Scholarships

As the new academic year begins, the SEATA Scholarship Committee invites applications for its 2008-2009 scholarships, which are established to preserve the memory and accomplishments of deceased members of SEATA and to perpetuate the standards of excellence exemplified by athletic trainers.  These awards serve to recognize and promote both high achievement and professionalism in athletic training.  Starting November 17th, the SEATA Scholarship Committee will be accepting applications for nine available scholarships.  Three undergraduate and three graduate scholarships are available to full time students pursuing a degree in athletic training.  In addition, District 9 members who presently have a dependent enrolled as a junior or senior in an accredited college or university are eligible for three family scholarships.  Details and criteria related to each of the scholarships can be found at www.seata.org/Scholarshipdetails.htm.  All potential candidates are asked to visit the SEATA website and complete the online application.  The deadline for all scholarships is January 7th, 2009.
