SEATA to Host 2nd Biennial Athletic Training Educators’ Conference

SEATA will be hosting the 2nd Biennial Athletic Training Educators’ Conference on Feb. 8-9, 2008 in conjunction with the 23rd Annual SEATA Athletic Training Student Symposium at the Crown Plaza Ravinia in Atlanta, GA.  The agenda is almost completely finalized and a tentative schedule with some details may be reviewed at www.seata.org/08atec.htm.  More details regarding speakers, registration, etc. will soon be added as well as a link to online registration sometime in September.

Nominate District IX Members for NATA Awards

Now is the time to nominate deserving members for NATA Awards and we have many members who are both eligible and worthy of recognition.  In District IX we have 651 members eligible (15 years certified membership) for the Athletic Trainer Service Award, 363 members eligible (20 years certified membership) for the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award, and 192 members eligible (25 years certified membership) for the NATA Hall of Fame.  If you desire to check a member's eligibility, please email rtf@uwa.edu.  Review NATA Honors & Awards, then nominate a deserving member between August 1 and November 15 at www.nata.org/honors/index.htm

Athletic Training Relief Fund for 2005 Hurricane Victims Deadline extended

The Athletic Training Relief Fund Application Deadline has been extended to September 30, 2007 and the Southeast Athletic Trainers' Association's Executive Board is asking for assistance from the membership to identify any SEATA members who sustained a substantial loss as a result of the hurricanes in 2005.  We have received $3,000.00 as a result of the work done by Glen Snow and Rich Carey of Plate-O-Pair with the Hurricane Fundraiser Cookbook Volume I & II.  The Board requests that you assist in identifying our fellow athletic trainers who had a financial loss as a result of the hurricanes.  Those members who received assistance back in 2006 may still be eligible and are encouraged to apply if some needs are still unmet.  This information should be forwarded to Gerard White, AT Relief Fund Coordinator, at gerard.white@nicholls.edu and their name will be put into a database.  This information will help to ensure that the relief fund will be utilized and benefit ALL of our fellow athletic trainers in need.  Please use the Athletic Trainer Relief Fund Recommendation Form and submit no later September 30, 2007 so that the funds can be dispersed to those who are in need of assistance.

SEATA Call for Abstracts - Athletic Training Educator's Conference

The SEATA Research and Education Committee is issuing a call for abstracts for poster presentations at the 2008 Biennial SEATA Athletic Training Educators’ Conference.  Individuals interested in sharing original research and or other scholarly works in any area of athletic training including, but not limited to, original research, didactic education, professional development, technology for the clinician/educator, and other areas related to the conference theme, are encouraged to submit.  Abstracts will be evaluated based upon relevance to Athletic Training Education, clarity, completeness, methods, results, and appropriateness of findings/conclusions, among other criteria.  Go to www.seata.org/CallforAbstractsEdConf2008.pdf for more information

SEATA Awards Nominations Now Open

SEATA is now accepting 2008 nominations for the Jack C. Hughston, M.D. Sportsmedicine Person of the Year Award, Award of Merit, District Award, Backbone Award, High School Athletic Trainer Award, Clinical/Industrial/Corporate Athletic Trainer Award, College/University Athletic Trainer Award, Professional Athletic Trainer Award, Education/Administration Award, and Sponsor's Award.

The deadline for submitting nominations for the 2008 SEATA Honors and Awards Program is Jan. 1, 2008 and should be done online at www.seata.org/Awards.htm.

SEATA History & Archives

History & Archives needs old pictures or items that can be placed in the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame representing all athletic trainers of the past especially District 9.  At present I've got pictures dating back to the 1950's.  Please contact John H. Anderson, athtrain@troy.edu
